Child Sex Trafficking on the Internet- "Selling the Girl Next Door" Docu...

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFRZ1NDR0Rc

Selling the Girl Next Door takes viewers into the world of underage American girls caught up in the violent sex trade. Thousands of girls under the age of 18 are ensnared into lives of prostitution annually, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Many are runaways or "throwaways" trapped in "the oldest profession" by pimps who sell them using modern sales and marketing techniques, including the online classified website Backpage.com.

In a statement dated December 28, 2011 Backpage.com said it is "committed to preventing those who are intent on misusing the site for illegal purposes." Click on the following link to read an up-to-date list of the safety measures backpage.com says it is taking http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2011/imag...

In a year-long investigation, CNN correspondent Amber Lyon reveals the devastating realities of the business of underage sex -- speaking to a young teen runaway sold online from a Las Vegas hotel, the men that obsessively seek Internet sex connections, and women long into careers as sex workers who were trafficked as teens or children.

Along the way, Lyon interviews well-known brothel owner Dennis Hof. Hof's sex workers describe their own dark pasts and the frightening underworld of underage sex trafficking.

Lyon also goes undercover herself, posting an online ad, and taking calls from solicitors -- and Internet pimps -- to understand more about how girls are victimized by traffickers.

An interactive map on CNN.com shares Lyon's coast-to-coast journey -- from Maryland, Missouri, Tennessee and Nevada -- trailing runaways, finding their families, meeting sex workers, and visiting a "Johns' school" where convicted solicitors are forced to face the social and criminal consequences of their actions.

Source: Preventing Others from Falling through the Cracks!

In the 2001- 02 school year, Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colorado experienced the suicides of four of our students. In an effort to prevent other tragedies from occurring, the B.I.O.N.I.C Team was started to reach those going through stressful times that can lead to bigger issues if not addressed.

Since the 2004-05 school year since the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team was started, we have reached out to over 50,000 people. Many have recognized the efforts of these young people and the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team has won many awards including the National Philanthropy Day in Colorado "Outstanding Youth Group Award."

Allgood Sesame steps Video

Allgood Sesame steps Video from Allgood plc on Vimeo.

Since the introduction of the DDA and subsequently the Equality Act, many buildings have struggled to provide a means of access to their property that is barrier-free and ensures access for all. Even the smallest numbers of steps at the entrance of a building can provide a huge obstacle to visitors to a building and can lead to a situation where some visitors cannot access the building without assistance. Frequently, the property will install a retrofit solution that is difficult to use and can be an eyesore to the existing façade of the building. Sesame from Allgood Trio is a new innovative system that solves this issue by ensuring access for all whilst providing a discreet and aesthetically pleasing solution for the building.
Technologically advanced, the Sesame system from Allgood Trio is tailored to each individual entrance and supplied and installed by our team of engineers. The secret to the system is the way that the retractable stair lift platform is installed beneath the existing stairs, utilising the stairs in the process. This then means that when not in use, the Sesame system cannot be seen and the aesthetic of the building is not unduly affected. Once activated, the system retracts the existing stairs to reveal the lift which can be programmed to work automatically or at the touch of a button. The result is a concealed stair lift that is easy to use, retains the existing aesthetic of the building whilst not taking up space when not in use.
The video above demonstrates the system at one of our installations. Take time to watch it and if you require any further information on the system, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01708 345067 or office@allgoodtrio.co.uk

Empathy vs. Sympathy

Empathy and sympathy are not just two different approaches to confronting the emotional challenges of others; they are diametrically opposite responses in many important ways. Sympathy places another's problems at a distance from us, places us in a position of superiority, and "drives separation", says the film's narrator, Dr. Brené Brown. Empathy, on the other hand, requires that one internalize the feelings of another. That shared experience drives interpersonal connection, she says. "What makes things better is connection."

Dove Real Beauty Sketches

Join the conversation at: #WeAreBeautiful
Watch the whole experience at: http://dove.com/realbeautysketches

Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.

And don't forget: YOU are more beautiful than you think!
